Feeling guilty seems to be a way of life for the modern family. Whether you are a stay-at-home-dad, work-from-home-mom, or breadwinner carving out the workload with your spouse, the "ask" on the daily to-do seems to grow by the day.

It used to be enough to keep up the house and feed your family. In 2019, there is a more perfect life being marketed to you in social media. More social activities for the kids, intensive care for aging parents who need more help than ever getting to appointments, gardens, birthday parties, home decor and more.

The myth of finding balance

If you could wave a magic wand and get anyone to do anything to help you feel more balanced what would you do? Would you have someone pay your bills? Hire someone to walk your dog? And, what happens when you hire people to help and still feel overwhelmed? Balance is a myth. What you need are new habits.

Design small habits & create more opportunity for balance in your life.

How to create new habits

You do not need more discipline in your life. You need better habits. Habits are systems, or routines, that you follow every day to keep you sane.

1. Start by setting an achievable goal. Here is an example: I will spend more time spent in nature this year.

2. Brainstorm everything you need to do to make that happen. Write ideas down on sticky notes for two minutes.

3. Look at your sticky notes and pick three that you can do now. Make them stronger by adding "who" "how often" and "with what tool." Specific is better.

4. Last but not least, get out there and try. Practice, observe, adjust. Learn by doing.
